A Hitchhiker's Guide to Macedonia...and my soul by Carol Maria CHO

The Balkans in the geographical sense, and in no particular order, are made up of the following countries: Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Turkey, Slovenia, parts of Romania and Hungary.
The Balkans in the political sense is a lot more complex. Maybe you, the reader, are right now complaining that I put Macedonia first, and Serbia second, or that I put Albania next to Bosnia, or that I even had the gall to put Albania in the same sentence or on the same list with Serbia and Macedonia, or that Romania and Hungary are really not part of the Balkans, or that Macedonia is really Greece and parts of Greece are really Macedonian, or that Macedonia is really Bulgarian and that the Macedonian language is really Bulgarian, or that parts of Macedonia are really Albanian, or that others parts of Albania are really Macedonian, or that parts of Serbia and Transylvania are really Hungarian, OR that the entire region is really Turkish!
Now, the Balkans in the historical sense is an even bigger mess. It's like telling a child to just randomly scribble a bunch of lines. Borders have been redrawn more times than a schizophrenic changes his medication. Mapmakers can't keep up with all changes, but at the same time it keeps them busy and in business. Borders, flags, and countries have been redrawn ans resurrected so many times that people start to blur and confuse where is where and who is who and where that who came from exactly, because no two will ever agree.
